Shimla, April 7 (IANS) To mark World Health Day, a group of 60 cyclists Sunday set out for an expedition in the 'Queen of Hills', as Shimla was fondly called by the British.
The cyclists are members of the Initiative for Cycle Enthusiasts (ICE), a local club comprising government officials, students and businessmen, which was formed last year to promote cycling as an environment-friendly mode of transportation.
"The aim of the cycling expedition is to sensitise locals on the ecological and health-friendly mode of commuting," Shimla Municipal Corporation deputy mayor Tikender Panwar, who too participated in the event, told IANS.
He said Shimla has always had a healthy walking culture but now the people are opting for public and private transports.
ICE chairman Sushil Tanwar said it was the fourth such event since the club was formed.
The 25-km rally will traverse through uphill and downhill stretches of Kasumpti, Panthaghati, Beolia, Pujarli and Mehli areas.
